How to start a mattress business

It is very important for everyone to get enough sleep. To maintain health, restore the nervous system should sleep 7-8 hours a night. In this case, nothing should disturb your sleep. And the quality of rest, in turn, largely depends on the quality of the bed.

The only correct place to sleep is a bed with an orthopedic mattress. Sofas are categorically not suitable for a night's rest. And the quality of the mattress depends not only on the sleep itself but also on the health of the spine and back in general.

Today the mattress market is actively expanding. People are buying them for both adults and children. Therefore, the profitability of such a business is fully justified. And if the entrepreneur has plans to develop the production of mattresses, it is necessary to study the technology of production, the equipment that is required for this.

How to start your own "mattress" business?

At first glance, it seems that it is enough to buy the necessary equipment, and the production of mattresses will already be ready to start. In reality, however, certain technological knowledge is required, as well as a package of documents on business registration.

So, the businessman needs to officially open a sole proprietorship or LLC. In this case, experts advise registering all the same LLC, which will give much more opportunities for production. After all, large investors are working only with legal entities, which is LLC.

For registration requires the following package of documents:

  1. The Charter of the meeting of founders.
  2. The decision of the meeting on the opening of LLC.
  3. Application for registration.
  4. A receipt indicating payment of state duty.
  5. A copy and the original of passport of the director of Ltd. and accountant.

To start production, you also need permission from the sanitary and epidemiological inspection.

You will also have to decide where to buy or rent a suitable building. Production of these products requires premises of at least 125 square meters. The cost of such an area is about 50 thousand rubles per month.

Please note: this area does not include storage space, office area.

In the last century, mattresses were made by hand. Basically, they were thin wadding or foam padding, lined with a simple fabric. Today there is a certain technological process of mattress production.

It is impossible to make a modern mattress without using special equipment. Yes, today there are still manufacturers who make products by hand. But, as a rule, these are large, branded companies. Such bed mattresses belong to the "Premium" class and are made to order.

The entire technology of producing featherbeds is divided into three stages.

Step 1 -  Manufacturing of the mattress base.

In most mattresses, the spring block is the main one. It is made of steel combined with carbon compounds. The latter gives the structure strength and durability.

Low-price mattresses are made on the basis of a combination of simple springs. In orthopedic designs, however, they are assembled into separate blocks and arranged around the perimeter in a specific sequence. This helps to avoid the appearance of dents, pressing springs over time.

If each of the springs is independent, separate, the load on the featherbed is given only when the body is upright. Thanks to spring independence, the mattress accurately takes the form of the human body, which protects the back from distortion.

After the manufacture of the base, the frame chooses the filler. It is on the basis of the springs and the filler has calculated the cost of the finished product.

Among the most common fillers are the following materials:

  • latex polyurethane foam;
  • latex;
  • mammalian fleece;
  • coconut coir;
  • memorix;
  • felt;
  • struttofiber.

Step 2 - Making the mattress itself.

 The mattress is made according to the special model, which is prepared in advance.

Thus, the parts of the featherbed of the desired shape, length, and width are cut out of blanks by means of technical scissors. Fabric for the product is chosen as strong as possible, to withstand loads of varying degrees.

Depending on the price, the following fabrics are chosen:

  • Low price: polyester, polypropylene.
  • Medium price: raw materials of cotton.
  • High price: bamboo fibers, the addition of algae.

Step 3 - The final stage.

After the production of the finished product, it is covered with special products. As a rule, it is moisture-repellent, fire-resistant coatings. Non-combustible, however, is an innovation, and at the moment it is not easy to find such flooring for sleeping in the U.S. market.

Making orthopedic mattresses - how does it work?

The most common and popular type of mattresses now are orthopedic. In such mattresses, most often fillings are used that have hypoallergenic properties. The orthopedic same properties are determined by the basis of the product.

Let us consider this parameter in more detail.

1) Dependent spring unit.

A dependent spring block is a structure of double cone springs, fastened together by a metal frame. These springs are shaped like an hourglass.

This basis is actively used, although it is considered an outdated option. All because the production of the dependent unit is not complicated and not expensive.

Achieve a good orthopedic is difficult because when you squeeze one spring there is a sagging of the whole block. Such mattresses are designed for people with low weight.

2) Independent spring block.

This design is more expensive and problematic to produce, but more in demand than the monoblock.

The springs are cylinder-shaped and separated from each other by an individual cover. One block contains several springs. The finished blocks are not connected to each other.

This system allows you to get an orthopedic mattress with an even distribution of stress. The product fully accepts all curves of the body and is characterized by longevity.

Also by separating the blocks it is possible to avoid squeaking when putting the load on the mattress.

3) Multi-pocket.

Most of the quality mattresses are built using this technology because they help manage different health conditions such as hip bursitis (check options here), scoliosis, bad neck, and many more. Among the modern options in the manufacture of products also use a multi-pocket frame. It represents the independent blocks of springs of small size - the diameter of one does not exceed 3-4 cm.

So the construction clearly takes the form of the body in both horizontal and vertical positions. In the rest, the principle of the "multi-pocket" is similar to that of the independent spring blocks.

Selling the mattresses

In order for the business to immediately begin to make a profit, you must research the market in advance.

Previously, mattresses were found only in specialized stores. Today, even in hypermarkets you can find departments dedicated to them. This is the most acceptable and profitable option for selling your product. But at the same time selling mattresses to specialized stores allows you to sell your products in large batches.

To attract more customers, you can engage in the production of featherbeds to order, sewing covers, mattress covers. These additional products are also popular.

As you can see, the production of mattresses can be very profitable, although it does require a considerable investment.
