What Soft-Skills Do Leaders Need to Develop?

There is one undeniable thing: the time has come for a new type of leader! Such leaders can demonstrate natural authority and motivate their subordinates, and this is the best way to achieve outstanding results. So what qualities does a leader these days simply cannot do without?

Empathy

One of the necessary soft skills is empathy. Empathy is not only the ability to understand others, to think like them, to anticipate their needs, problems and doubts. It is firmly tied to your ability to motivate them.

How do you want to motivate employees if you have no empathy? True empaths show a natural interest in others, an ability that can be developed over time. We are beginning to realize that true effectiveness in our careers as well as in our personal lives stems from our ability to take an interest in others. Your empathy will increase if you get used to listening more, much more...

Learn to let people talk until they're done--what I call "letting them empty their ego." If you let someone "empty themselves" of everything they have to say to you, you've already earned their full respect. It can take minutes. Believe me, after that, he will be willing to listen and accept what you need to tell him, much more openly and positively! Try it and see how effective another person's positive attitude can be.

Energy

Are you an energetic person? If not, how could you improve your leadership skills? With more energy you can accomplish more with less fatigue and stress. You have the means to achieve and fulfill your dreams. You begin to think faster. Your influence over people and situations increases. You stay younger and more focused.

How can you get more energy? There are thousands of ways, so let me pick one that is particularly suited to the work. Most leaders go from one activity to the next. They have no time because every free moment is quickly filled with another activity. They don't give themselves a chance to rest and relax during the workday. This is a very bad choice. Why? If you know that stress and fatigue have a direct negative impact on the quality of your thinking, your decisions, your motivation, your relationships, to name a few, why is it so hard for executives to find time to stop and relax?

So as soon as you notice mental or emotional fatigue after two or three hours of work, just stop and take time for ten to twenty minutes to enjoy and relax. The hardest thing to notice is that fatigue or stress builds up because most people are used to it. Remember: this is time for pleasure, for great music on headphones or for silence, for a nice conversation with a friend, a nice hot drink, meditation, a quick walk outdoors to breathe and reflect. During this time, forbid yourself from doing anything work-related, and don't waste time on your phone or computer. Use these moments as precious energy resources.

Communication Skills

It's impossible to forget the public speaking skill of a leader like Steve Jobs. The founder of APPLE learned how to spin his public speaking and the power of pitching his products. He changed the world not only with the company's inventions, but also with his speeches. If you want to motivate your subordinates, persuade shareholders, find new customers easily, improve your communication skills, whether oral or written.

Our history is full of pioneers who could not reap the benefits of their innovations because others knew much better how to communicate the same ideas to the world. Take the example of the genius Nikola Tesla, who spent so much time and intelligence to create things that would change our world--like the alternating current that powers our cities, radio, radar--that he had little time left to communicate and monetize his genius.

Creativity

What will help you make a difference as a leader is definitely your creativity. The man is a creator. Creating the products and services of tomorrow, winning strategies and tactics, is the quality of those who are ahead of the curve. They have a vision. Do you have one?

Every day is a chance to learn something. Consider that every day lived without personal development is lost. The development of yourself, as well as the development of your company, is tied to your creativity. You must avoid routine in every way possible. Routine is the type of life where nothing is created, where everything is repeated. It is so boring and detrimental to your success.

Every day imagine what you can create that can enrich your practice or your results. Use your imagination. I suggest putting all your ideas in a "creative document." Also write down your decisions and things to do there for the future. Don't be afraid or shy. You have limitless creativity! Just learn to manifest them.

Charisma

Do you have charisma? What does it take to gain charisma? It's really about your energy.  Do people really see and hear you? Some people have more power of presence, more radiance than others. This helps them increase their influence and be taken more seriously. So shine, my friends, shine like the sun! Our era is one of changing values. The skills of past leaders were related to the behavior described by Darwin in his theory of survival of the fittest.

Many past leaders who ruled by fear, separation, followed only their selfish agendas and narrow visions. The skills of future leaders will be mostly positive because our endangered planet demands it. Those who are called "positive leaders" will quickly emerge in our world in the process of transformation. Start learning soft-skills today that will bring you to the forefront and make everyone recognize you as a true leader! Someone who can create, understand, communicate and embody winning strategies.
