LONG LIVE MENTORING // Jamie Tworkowski // Storyteller Spotlight

We are so excited for our friends and mentors to spend time with Jamie Tworkowski. Jamie is a dear friend, amazing human and the founder of what might be the most influential non-profit in America today.  Jamie founded To Write Love On Her Arms (aka TWLOHA) in 2006 as Jamie's attempt to help a friend and tell a story. Since then, the TWLOHA team has responded to more than 170,000 emails and messages from over 100 countries, in addition to investing more than $1.2 million directly into treatment and recovery for those struggling with addiction, depression, self-injury and suicide.

Jamie's recent TEDx Talk on depression and desire is one of the most viewed TEDx offerings in the last year.  We invited Jamie to share with our community because so many of our mentees face the issues surrounding addiction, depression, self-injury and suicide.  Some mentees deal with these struggles individually on a daily basis, while a large number of our mentees have home environments impacted by these obstacles.  Spending time with Jamie will help you better understand how to walk along side your mentee if and when she faces these hurdles.

According to Jamie, "[s]o much of life in general - can be boiled down to one simple question: 'What do we do with our pain?' And it seems the most common source of pain is the pain of our relationship with our parents, which is no doubt informed by their relationship with their parents. It's an epidemic in this country, young men growing up without father figures. Mentoring is no doubt a huge part of the solution, men stepping up and stepping in to play the part of love and guidance and strength in a young person's life. It can sound simple but i believe it's something priceless."

We see the power in Jamie's uncanny and poetic insight to life.  Come spend time with Jamie at our intimate roof top dinner and at Long Live Mentoring main conference.  Register now here.
